‘Alarmist media’ are prepared to ‘fuel public panic for a big headline’

‘Alarmist media’ are prepared to ‘fuel public panic for a big headline’ Sky News host Chris Kenny says while it’s hardly surprising Australia is witnessing a flattening of the coronavirus curve there are still the ever-present “alarmist headlines” from media outlets “prepared to fuel public panic and misinformation”.

Mr Kenny said a variety of media outlet and pundits alike, such as those from the ABC, Channel 9 and channel 10, among others, are “running sensationalist stories” which are fueling public panic on the coronavirus pandemic.

He said at a time like this, what is needed is “the cold hard facts” which can dispel circulated misinformation on the deadly pandemic.

He said the “factual message” which is delivered to the public, “should be one of reassurance, of action … government and community action, actually working to slow the spread of the virus”.

“At a time of genuine crisis, I might have thought that sober analysis and sensible predictions might be more the order of the day,” instead of the “alarmist headlines,” Mr Kenny said.
