Cardinal Pell acquittal 'not surprising following wrongful conviction'

Cardinal Pell acquittal 'not surprising following wrongful conviction' The Australian's John Ferguson says it is "very obvious Cardinal Pell was wronged and terribly so" for having spent 405 days in jail before his sexual abuse conviction was overturned.

On Tuesday, Carinal Pell had his conviction overturned by Australia’s highest court after having spent over a year in jail following an initial ruling which had found him guilty in 2018.

Mr Ferguson told Sky News host Chris Kenny he was "not surprised" by the verdict.

"I think my position has hardened somewhat over recent weeks and months," he said.

"It’s very obvious that Cardinal Pell was wronged and terribly so ... he was wrongly jailed".
