Dad Delivers Big Fish - Mommy Bella Happy & Promptly Claims It - March 28, 2020 - NCTC Bald Eagles

Dad Delivers Big Fish - Mommy Bella Happy & Promptly Claims It - March 28, 2020 - NCTC Bald Eagles Happy happy happy ... Dad aka Smitty brings in a beautiful big fish for the family. Mommy Bella is excited and vocal thanking Dad for the fish. Bella promptly claims and then eats some of the fish. Dad exits the nest. The sweet baby eaglet pops up and we get to see how cute she is. So wonderful to see the family have a happy day here at this nest.

Our hearts remain bruised from the sad loss of baby eaglet #1 yesterday; we hope the rest of the season is uneventful at this nest.

About the NCTC Bald Eagle Nest

The resident bald eagles are named Bella (female) and Smitty (male). Bella and Smitty has been together since the fall of 2018. Bella replaced the long term resident female Belle in 2018; Belle was badly injured in a territorial dispute with other adult eagles. The resident male Smitty has been at this nest since 2011 when he replaced the long term resident male Liberty.

The NCTC Bald Eagle nest is located 75 miles from Washington, D.C. on the campus of The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services' National Conservation Training Center (NCTC). The campus is located at Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The nest and territory is prime real estate located about 1/4 mile from the Potomac River; rich in resources for an active bald eagle family and at times visitors/intruders challenge Bella and Smitty for their territory.

Many thanks to the National Conservation Training Center, The US Fish and Wildlife Services, the Outdoor Channel and the Friends of the NCTC for providing and maintaining this bald eagle cam.
