Coronavirus outbreak: Trudeau vows Canada 'will not pay' for sub-standard N95 masks

Coronavirus outbreak: Trudeau vows Canada 'will not pay' for sub-standard N95 masks The federal government has suspended shipments of N95 masks from a Montreal-based supplier after about eight million masks made in China failed to meet specifications.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as the country’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam, and Minister of Indigenous Services Marc Miller, explained the government’s decision to suspend the shipment of N95 masks.

Trudeau said bluntly that Canada will not be paying for N95 masks which do not meet the required specifications from Public Health Canada.

"We will not be paying for masks that do not hit the standards that we expect to give to our front line workers,” Trudeau said from outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa.

Dr. Tam added that none of the sub-standard masks have been distributed.
Miller said there were a number of issues raised, including whether the straps were adequate, and concerns over the quality of the filtration.
