On March 4th, 2008, British police were told via an anonymous tip that Madeleine was snatched by a pedophile ring based in Belgium. This tip was escalated and ultimately dismissed by the Portuguese police for lack of evidence. But the McCann Circus has been circulating it ever since, regardless: The crazy thing with the McCann case is it's a popular theory that Madeleine was abducted by pedophiles, and yet simultaneously, the same people who believe in a pedophile abduction also seem to believe Madeleine is not only alive, but safe and well. What is it about the word "pedophile" that suggests anything about safety, wellness, or for that matter, hope?
