Brendan O'Neill: 'Pulling down statues is like a woke Taliban'

Brendan O'Neill: 'Pulling down statues is like a woke Taliban' Editor of Spiked Online Brendan O'Neill speaks to Julia Hartley-Brewer about protests at the weekend and Matt Hancock's interview with Sky where he was asked how many black people were in the cabinet.

Brendan thought it was "quite obnoxious" that Mr Hancock was asked such a question, saying "high offices of state are occupied by people from Asian heritage backgrounds and even that was not good enough".

Regarding the statue of former slaver Edward Colston that was pulled down in Bristol and thrown into the river, Brendan says it is "a politically correct tantrum" suggesting that protests now have nothing to do with the killing of George Floyd.

Brendan says he finds the appetite for tearing down statues to be "completely regressive, worrying and something that we need to get a handle on."
