'I do not want an election,' Trudeau says ahead of throne speech

'I do not want an election,' Trudeau says ahead of throne speech Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, when asked about concerns of a potential election during the COVID-19 pandemic, said on Wednesday that he does not want an election and his government's goal is to keep Canadians safe amid the pandemic.

However, he said it would be “a little irresponsible” to talk about the "recklessness" of having an election and they should have confidence in Elections Canada to bring forward measures to keep Canadians safe.

Trudeau said opposition parties need to reflect on the direction the country is taking, and they have been listening carefully to opposition parties in terms of what they see Canadians needing ahead of the throne speech.
