The 2020 BRICS summit attended by the leaders of the five-member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa takes place to discuss the strengthening and further development of cooperation especially in the context of the global political and socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prof Patrick Bond of the University of The Western Cape’s School of Governance says the summit comes at a time India and China remain locked in a bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh, a disputed part of the larger Kashmir region.
