The Lallantop Fact Check: During ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some pictures of currency notes scattered on the road are going viral on Facebook. It is being claimed that the scene is from Italy. It is being said in the viral post that in Italy, people are throwing wealth on the streets by saying that they are worthless because of the deaths due to coronavirus outbreak.
The Lallantop’s Padtaal team investigated the claim and came to the conclusion that it is false. These pictures are from Venezuela, not from Italy. The team of ‘The Lallantop’ did a reverse image search of the viral picture and found a Facebook post dated March 22, 2019. This post has been shared more than 3.83 lakh times. The same picture was shared a few days back with a caption, “This is the road of Venezuela. Money is being flown into the drainage. Money has no value here. Welcome to socialism.”
