President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joins his fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders for the Opening Ceremony of the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits via virtual convention on November 12, 2020.
This year's Summit primarily focuses on further enhancement of the regional bloc's cooperation and connectivity with its Dialogue Partners in addressing several matters on the global strategic environment, including the region's response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement released by the Office of the President, the Chief Executive is expected to exchange views with his counterparts regarding COVID-19 response and recovery efforts, future direction of ASEAN community building, and regional and international developments.
Likewise, President Duterte will uphold the Philippines' stand on public health emergencies cooperation, regional economic integration, migrant workers' rights, climate change, disaster risk reduction management, counter-terrorism and the South China Sea issue during the virtual meeting.
This year's 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits is hosted by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and centers on the theme, 'Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN.'
