This map shows the spread of the new coronavirus. It’s based on more than 3200 genetic sequences of the virus, which were submitted by researchers from around the globe into a single database called Nextstrain. As you can see from the map, continued travels across the globe contributed greatly to spreading the virus. If travel bans and lockdowns were imposed earlier, the disease would have been contained in China.
